What types of information does WhoLivesNearYou collect?
Information submitted to us
WhoLivesNearYou collects user-submitted account information such as name and email address to identify users and send notifications related to the use of the service. WhoLivesNearYou also collects user-submitted profile information such as gender, age, occupation, interests, etc. These information held by us is held on and processed by computers situated in the Republic of Singapore.
Information not directly submitted to us
This is information we collect that is not personally identifiable, such as browser type and IP address. This information is gathered for all users to the site.

How does WhoLivesNearYou use or disclose my information?

The over-riding principles we apply are these:
We will not supply your personal data to a third party for commercial exploitation - thus, you can rest assured that we will not sell the lists of our Members' email addresses or particulars to a third party; and
the only circumstances in which we will provide any of your personal data to a third party for non-commercial purposes are those contained in this Privacy Policy.

Registration Information
Once a Member specified his/her postalcode, some or all of the Registration Information held for that Member, except for the home and email address, will be available at the listing for that neighbourhood. WhoLivesNearYou offers 3 levels of neighbourhood privacy as detailed below:

Original
You will be able to see the people living in the same block as you. Only people living in the same block will have their block number known to one another.

Moderate
You will be seen as living very near others even though you might stay in the same block as them. This option effectively removes the ability for you to see people living in the same block as you. In this way, nobody will know exactly which block you live in; but still gives you an idea of how close people are from you.

Highest
You will be seen only in the whole neighbourhood. The only thing that people know is that they are living in the same neighbourhood as you. They have completely no idea how near or how far you are living away from them.

Messaging
We do not directly make your email address available to anyone on any screen of the WhoLivesNearYou Service. The only legitimate way of making contact with a friend found on the WhoLivesNearYou Service is for a Member to enter a message via the "Message Box" feature. We may, notify the addressee Member, using the email address he/she has provided to us, that WhoLivesNearYou is holding a message for him/her, and the Member can receive the message when logged in to the WhoLivesNearYou Service. Sent and received messages may appear in a Member's "Message Box" on the WhoLivesNearYou Service for an indefinite period - we do not delete it after any specific period. However, this does not mean that we will retain your messages forever; there may come a time when we will need to delete some or all of it, for technical or other reasons. In this event, we will endeavour to give you advance warning that we are going to do so.

Disclosure for legal reasons
We reserve the right to communicate such of a Member's personal information as we hold to third parties which seek the disclosure of it, and which make a legally-compliant request for its disclosure.

Do you share or sell my personal information?
WhoLivesNearYou absolutely, positively do not sell, rent, share, trade or give away any of your personal information unless required by law or for the protection of your membership. However, WhoLivesNearYou may share profile information and aggregate usage information in a non-personally identifiable manner to advertisers and other third parties in order to present to members more targeted advertising, products and services. In such situations we will never disclose information that will be used to personally identify you.

How does WhoLivesNearYou keep my information secure?
The privacy of our members is a top priority. We keep your information secure in three ways:

At WhoLivesNearYou, we use state of the art firewalls and database protection equipment and software.

Password-protection
Your WhoLivesNearYou profile is password-protected so that you are the only member who has access to this information. We recommend that you do not divulge your password to anyone. We also recommend that you log out of your account when you're done using the service, especially if you share a computer with someone else or are using a computer in a public place, such as a library or Internet cafe.

Limited access inside the WhoLivesNearYou Team
Access to members' personal information is strictly limited, even inside the small WhoLivesNearYou team, comprising only a small number of engineers and customer relationship employees. A customer care employee will handle your personal information only to respond to your communication or to better understand our audience to help with our editorial direction. The engineers on our Security Team handle personal information when they maintain our site and email system. Every member of the WhoLivesNearYou team is subject to stringent confidentiality requirements. Any member information disseminated outside of the WhoLivesNearYou Team is anonymous and aggregated.
Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be absolutely secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, WhoLivesNearYou cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us or from our online products or services, and you do so at your own risk.

What are cookies and how does WhoLivesNearYou use them?

Persistent cookies
A persistent cookie is a text file stored on the user's hard drive for an extended period of time (for example, to remember a member's login information, so that the username is displayed automatically when the WhoLivesNearYou login page is re-visited.) These cookies are used to manage sessions on our site and they disappear when the user closes the browser.
Users must enable cookies to use our site. We do not and will not use cookies to collect private information from any user.

What privacy policy cover the ads on your site?
The WhoLivesNearYou Service may include interactive advertising for other businesses. We may use, and provide to third parties, non individually identified, anonymised demographic data provided by Members to target this advertising more appropriately. In addition, we may use third-party advertising companies to serve ads on our site. These companies may employ cookies and action tags (also known as single pixel gifs or web beacons) to measure advertising effectiveness. Any information that these third parties collect via cookies and action tags is completely anonymous.

What happens if WhoLivesNearYou is sold or merges with another company?
While WhoLivesNearYou will endeavor to require the successor company to maintain this privacy policy, we cannot guarantee that our policy will remain unchanged if WhoLivesNearYou is sold or merges with another company. We will use our best efforts to notify you by email if such a merger or acquisition occurs. As always, in the event of a merger or acquisition, you will be able to delete or edit your profile always.

The few WhoLivesNearYou employees who have access to personal data of our members are trained to comply with the above privacy policy and made aware of any updates or modifications. Also, you should take self precaution when meeting up with strangers. Remember, they may not always be who they claim to be :)
