These rules are to preserve the integrity of the Garage Sale service and provide our users with a valuable and enjoyable experience. Please remember that listings are posted by those offering items for sale and are not endorsed or approved by WhoLivesNearYou. Sellers and buyers are solely responsible for any transactions they may enter into. All transactions resulting from listings on the Garage Sale must be consistent with any applicable laws and regulations and with these rules.

What is the Garage Sale?

The Garage Sale is an open forum where users can list items they would like to sell or browse for items to purchase. No bidding takes place; rather, it is simply an avenue where buyers and sellers can connect with each other.

How much does it cost to use the Garage Sale?

It is free and there are no listing fees; however only Verified members are able to use this premium service.

How does the Garage Sale work?

A seller submits his/her item to be listed in the Garage Sale. When another user finds an item that he/she is interested in, the seller is contacted directly via the private messaging service provided. It is then up to the seller and the buyer to negotiate a deal that is satisfactory to both of them. The Garage Sale is a place for buyers and sellers to connect. There is no formal bidding or negotiating that takes place within.

How do I find items?

There are several ways to find items on the Garage Sale. You can search by typing in a keyword or by browsing through the categories.

How do I purchase items?

In order to purchase an item, you should contact the seller directly using the private messaging service provided. It will be up to the buyer and the seller to negotiate a satisfactory deal and decide upon a payment method.

How long will my item be listed in the Garage Sale?

Your item will be listed for a period of 1 to 12 weeks (depending on your choice when you listed the item) unless it is removed in the discretion of WhoLivesNearYou.

Can I list my item again if it hasn't sold?

Yes.

Can I list more than one item?

Yes, you may list as many individual items as you would like as long as they are not duplicate ads. It is a violation of the rules to spam the Garage Sale with multiple listings for the same item.

Can I sell used clothing?

Yes, you may sell clothing provided it has been thoroughly cleaned according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Where can I report abuse?

If you would like to report a listing that you feel violates the rules or policies of the Garage Sale, please click on the "Report" button on the listing page.

Garage Sale Rules and Privacy Policy

Removal; discontinuation. WhoLivesNearYou reserve the right to reject or remove any listing that is not consistent with the policies or the law, if WhoLivesNearYou believe the seller or listing may violate the rights of others, or for any reason. WhoLivesNearYou also reserve the right to suspend or discontinue the membership of the seller should any clause be found breeched.

Transaction responsibility. WhoLivesNearYou provides the Garage Sale as a service for users to communicate with each other. WhoLivesNearYou does not participate in, nor is it a party screen or control those who choose to participate and does not review, verify or endorse the content of listings or the products offered. Sellers and buyers are solely responsible for agreeing upon and complying with the terms of their transactions. Sellers and buyers are solely responsible for resolving any disputes arising from transactions. Use reasonable care throughout your dealings with people participating in the Garage Sale.

Compliance with laws; taxes; costs. Sellers and buyers are solely responsible for complying with all applicable laws, regulations or restrictions related to products offered and transactions which take place. Sellers and buyers are responsible for all applicable taxes and costs incurred by participating in the Garage Sale.

Privacy. Information listed on the Garage Sale is at the sole risk of the person posting it. Such information will be used by WhoLivesNearYou in accordance with the Privacy Policy of this Site. WhoLivesNearYou cannot be responsible for any use of listed information available to public viewing by third parties.

Fraud. You may not use this service for any fraudulent activity or purpose, including, but not limited to, collecting payment and not providing the item or service purchased, providing a product or service which does not have the quality or characteristics described in the listing for it, intentionally including false or misleading claims in the listings, or filling false claims.

Obstruction and abuse. You may not spam or create an unreasonably large volume of content on our Site, such as by creating listings which are unrelated to their selected category or identical listings in the same category.

Rule changes. WhoLivesNearYou, in its sole discretion, may change these rules at any time with or without notice.

Sellers must:

Comply with applicable laws. You may not offer for sale or sell an item or service to any buyer which may not be legally sold where you or the buyer reside.
List accurate information. You must accurately describe the item you are selling and not include any language in your ad, including the ad title, which may confuse or mislead buyers.
Use appropriate category. You must list your item in the one category most applicable to the product.
Omit inappropriate content. You may not link to, post or include advertisements for items or services other than those in your listing which you have the right to offer. You may not include any content or images that are obscene, offensive, harmful to minors, invasive of anyone's privacy or otherwise inappropriate.
Own and possess item offered. You may not offer any item for sale that is not in your possession, that you do not have the right to sell, or that does not exist at the time it is listed.

Prohibited listings. Sellers and buyers are solely responsible for ensuring that items or services listed and bought may legally be sold under all applicable laws and regulations. You may not list the following items or services under any circumstances:

Products or services harmful to minors, obscene or otherwise objectionable.
Products or services for any business or commercial purposes such as tuition services, pyramid schemes, survey recruitments, money making opportunities, etc.
Weapons and related accessories.
Tobacco products, drugs, drug paraphernalia and medical devices.
Products that violate any Singapore export or import law and regulation.
Products that infringe the rights of a third party, including copyrights, trademarks, publicity or privacy rights, such as unauthorized copies or bootlegs of software, music, video games, movies, photos or other media.
Counterfeit or stolen items, including "replicas", "knockoffs" or "fake" versions of branded products, inauthentic collectibles, autographs, memorabilia or signatures.
Products designed or intended for use in the commission of any illegal activity.
Items that promote, glorify or are directly associated with hate groups or individuals.
Live animals or products made from or including any parts of an animal protected by law or regulation.
Products that have been recalled by the Singapore Consumer Product Safety Commission, any other government agency or product manufacturer.
Products used for hacking, intercepting, jamming, descrambling or otherwise obtaining unauthorized access to wire, electronic or other types of communications.
Bodies, body parts or bodily fluids such as cadavers, organs, urine, sperm, eggs, blood, breast milk.
Fireworks, explosives or any hazardous or restricted material or substance.
Authetic or counterfeit identification documents, (e.g., fake IDs or passports) or law enforcement insignia.
Stocks and securities.
Gambling-related devices or products such as lottery tickets, sweepstakes, etc.
Event tickets.
Non-packaged food and other food or beverages items offered in violation of local laws and regulations.
Used goods not appropriate for resale for safety, health or other reasons, including any clothing items that have not been appropriately cleaned (e.g., used underwear).
"Adult-oriented" products or content, as determined by WhoLivesNearYou in its sole discretion.
